Theme: New beginnings/Promises

Philippians 1:3-6

Looking at what God has done in the past year through testimonies from members of the congregation.

Opportunity for each us to consider things from the past year we wanted to thank God for.

John 14:15-21

LOVE is the theme. If we love Jesus, what is the response?

To OBEY. Not on our own, but with the Holy Spirit to help us.

When Jesus lives in us through the Holy Spirit we have strength we donít have if he doesnít live in us. (Demonstration of crushing cans!)

The Spirit can be called the Comforter, getting alongside us; the Counsellor, guiding us; the Helper, to support us and the Advocate, speaking on our behalf.

As we head into the new church year we are not on our own, either individually or as a congregation as we set out to love in the community and on our frontlines.

We will continue with Holy Habits looking at Worship, Eating Together, Gladness and Generosity and Making Disciples.

We have also been invited to join in a Learning Hub run by LICC (London Institute for Contemporary Christianity) and the diocese to help us learn more about whole life discipleship.

1.      What did you find encouraging from the testimonies at the beginning of the service? If you werenít one of the people who spoke, what might you have said if you had been asked what God had done in your life in the past year?

2.      How are we to show our love for Jesus? Why do you think this is repeated so many times- v.15, 21, 23, 24?

3.      Can you give examples of the different aspects of the Holy Spiritís work in your experience?

4.      Read the passage again and pick out all the words of encouragement then spend some time praying for the year ahead for us at All Saints and all we will be doing as a community and as individuals.
